In response to an enlightening peace-nik story which might have been a satire:
This is a GREAT column and mock news story!
Yep. Those darn war hawk Republicans hate peace. Why won't they just leave peace-loving, well-intentioned Saddam Hussein alone?
Of course, if I'm wrong about Saddam's peaceful intentions and he does the absolutely unthinkable -- attacks us -- I can just say "oops! wish we did something about it beforehand!" Oh well. Better to be peaceful and wrong than "beat war drums" and safe.
There should never be war-like statements, preparations or attacks done in the same month as the birthday of Christ, the Prince of Peace. To do otherwise besmirches Jesus, and the message of peace he preached while he was on this Earth for his 33 short years. He loved all his neighbors. Darn that Judas and others who turned on Our Saviour and didn't have that same peaceful outlook. Damn, must hurt to have spikes driven into your palms.
(I wonder if death by small pox is painful?)
So, while we should have a annual month-long holiday season of Washington talk about love and harmony, coupled with unilateral military dismantlement, I hope that other countries respect our yearly military self-neutering. I know! In the spirit of reaching out and "inclusivess" (that's always good, right?), we can call this yearly peace-fest "Rum-idan," which would be in honor of our wrong-headed Secretary of Defense. Also, the Islamic radicals who wish us all dead will take this gesture (and name!) as a peaceful olive branch and a step towards their goal of One World, One Religion. Oh sure, I may be naive, considering that they don't share in my well-intentioned love and tolerance for them, nor do they believe in Christ our Lord, and consider us infidels that must all die sudden and horrific deaths.
Oh well. If I'm wrong, at least we'll all be at the Lord's side, sooner than we had earlier thought, celebrating his birthday in the Kingdom of Eternal Peace.
